Locals Who Lead with Heart

What sets Sun Peaks apart is the people, those who live here, guide here, and share their love for this land with care and soul.

The Land We Stand On

Sun Peaks exists within Skwelkwek’welt, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Secwépemc People—a branch of the Interior Salish whose presence spans thousands of years across what is now British Columbia. The Secwépemc (Shuswap) people have long lived in balance with these mountains, rivers, and valleys, sustaining cultural traditions, land stewardship, and deep spiritual connection to place.

We acknowledge that the development of Sun Peaks Resort has occurred amid long-standing Indigenous presence and complex histories. At Cole Compass, we hold deep respect for the Secwépemc’s enduring relationship with this land. It is our hope that every experience we craft helps deepen not only a love for the mountain

Where is Sun Peaks?

Located just 55 km northeast of Kamloops, Sun Peaks sits at the heart of interior British Columbia. Nestled amid Tod, Sundance, Morrisey, and Orient Mountains, it stands as Canada’s second-largest ski area, yet retains a warm, personal village spirit.

From Vision to Resort

In 1961, a group of locals braved snow-streaked ridges of Tod Mountain (now crystal bowl territory) to install Canada’s longest chairlift. Sparked by passion, grounded in the land. . Over the decades, the resort evolved from a modest ski hill into a four-season mountain village, officially becoming Sun Peaks in 1993. The evolution to Sun Peaks marks a thoughtful weave of community, adventure, and alpine spirit.
